TRY to USD over the last 30 days
Over the 23 ECB working days from 2 Sept 2026 to 2 Oct 2026, 1 TRY ranged from 0.0203 USD (2 Oct 2026) to 0.0207 USD (2 Sept 2026), averaging 0.0205. Today's 0.0203 is below that average by 0.89%.
For 1,000 TRY, that range is the difference between 20.35 and 20.71 USD: 0.36 USD, or 1.76% of the low. The biggest one-day move was -0.26% on 4 Sept 2026.
Example: a bank or card that sets its rate 3% worse than mid-market would pay 19.74 USD for 1,000 TRY today instead of 20.35, keeping 0.61 USD. That 3% is more than this rate's whole 30-day range, so the margin you pay matters more than the day you convert.
Who converts TRY to USD, and why
Turkish lira to dollars is mostly converted by people in Türkiye protecting savings or paying for US goods and education, and by visitors pricing hotels, bazaar purchases and dental or hair treatment quoted in lira.
- Converting a quote for medical or dental treatment in Istanbul
- Checking bazaar and hotel prices in dollars
- Moving lira savings or salary into dollars
Tip: With high inflation, lira prices are revised often. Ask for a written quote with its date, and when paying by card choose lira at the terminal: card networks usually beat the shop's own dollar conversion.
About the two currencies
The Turkish Lira (TRY) is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye and used in Türkiye and Northern Cyprus. In 2005 six zeros were removed (1 new lira = 1,000,000 old lira). High inflation in the 2020s means the lira has lost value quickly, so tourist prices are often also shown in euros or dollars.
The United States Dollar (USD) is issued by the Federal Reserve and used in the United States and its territories, and also Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama (alongside the balboa), Timor-Leste, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau and several Caribbean territories. It is the world's main reserve and invoicing currency: oil, most commodities and a large share of world trade are priced in dollars, which is why so many cross rates are worked out through it.
