How the converter works
It multiplies your amount by the mid-market rate: on 2 Oct 2026, 1 USD = 0.8909 EUR, so 100 USD is 89.09 EUR. Pairs that do not involve the dollar are worked out through it (a cross rate). The rate is the benchmark, not what a bank or airport counter pays you: one quoting 10% below it would hand over 80.18 EUR for the same 100 USD. Frequently Asked Questions
How often are exchange rates updated?
The converter loads the latest rates when you open it: European Central Bank reference rates, published once each working day, plus a commercial feed for currencies the ECB does not cover (such as the UAE dirham). The date of the rate is shown next to the result.
Is the currency converter free to use?
Yes, completely free. No accounts, no fees, no hidden charges — just instant conversions for any currency pair.
Which currencies are supported?
The converter covers 29 major currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD, CHF, INR, CNY, MXN, BRL, ZAR, AED, SGD, NZD, KRW, HKD, SEK, NOK, TRY, THB, HUF, CZK, PLN, IDR, MYR, DKK, ILS, PHP.
Can I use the converter offline?
The website needs a connection to load rates. The free Android and iPhone app saves the latest rates so it keeps converting offline.
How do I calculate a currency conversion by hand?
Multiply the amount by the exchange rate. On 2 Oct 2026, 1 USD = 0.8909 EUR, so 100 USD × 0.8909 = 89.09 EUR. To go the other way, multiply by the inverse rate (1 EUR = 1.1225 USD). Between two non-dollar currencies, the converter works out the cross rate through the US dollar.
What is the mid-market rate?
It is the midpoint between the wholesale buying and selling prices of a currency: the fairest benchmark there is, and the rate this converter shows. Banks, card networks and exchange counters add their own margin on top, so what you receive is usually a little less.
Why is the rate at the airport or my bank different?
Most providers add a margin to the mid-market rate, and some add a fixed fee as well. A counter quoting 10% below mid-market would give you 80.18 EUR for 100 USD instead of 89.09 EUR — 8.91 EUR less. Type any real quote into the exchange rate markup calculator to see exactly what you are paying.
Should I pay in my home currency or the local currency abroad?
Usually the local currency. When a card terminal or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency, the conversion it applies typically includes a wide margin. The dynamic currency conversion calculator compares the two offers before you accept.
